Quick catchin' up....
All went really well in the studio. The guys there were very helpful... a little extra time would've been great... but isn't that always the way in the studio...
Anyhow, I am still in the middle of getting a first draft of my book together. I printed out what I have done sofar and it turned out to be 49 pages (which was a pleasant surprise)... it's amazing to see how many exercises have amounted over the years! I would say I have written roughly half of the book now ...and it' going to be the second half that really counts. I am quite looking forward to it actually :) Over the past week I have had the opportunity to explain some of the core concepts of the book to some fellow drummers and the response was very positive... oh well time to get back to work.... xo
PS: I don't know about you people out there in cyber-space but time just seems to be flying at the moment... when I get a chance I will post some of the pictures I took in the studio earlier in the week.... xo
Update
Just thought I would stop by my blog for a quick update.... I have been working flat out on my book for the past week - getting together all the exercises and putting them into some kind of coherent order... it's looking good, even if I say so myself :)
Apart from that I have booked a day in a mastering studio in Cologne to mix the first part of my drum library sample CD, which needless to say I am very excited about... that will be happening next Tuesday so watch out for some new pix of the process... till then xo
So much to write - so little time!
Well, I have finally gotten my head 'into' my book... there is so much I would like to post regarding it right now but that would kind of defeat the purpose... rest assured it will be ready soon for all that are interested :) I probably won't be blogging too much in the next few weeks as I am going to be completely focused on getting a first full draft finished by the end of the month... will keep you posted with progress reports every now and again though :)

Tidying up!
Today was spent getting the studio back into order - all those last minute things that have to be done but that no-one really enjoys - vacuuming away all those wood splinters off the carpet etc lol!
Anyway, received great news today that Jürgen Wirtz from Cologne will be mixing the sample CD for me in the next few weeks... it's all coming together nicely!

Thats It!
Hard to believe, but one whole month in the studio has now come to an end... sad and happy feelings at the same time...
sad that I have to take down my kit this afternoon and that the option to record whatever I feel like whenever I feel like it is gone for the time being... and
happy because I can now move on to putting together a handful of example chapters for my book and really get into the whole writing side of things!
I managed to record ten more quick ideas today just for the heck of it... I really didn't think I would even make it in to the studio at all today as I felt sooooooooo ill this morning! But I just couldn't pass by my last official day in the studio :)
Now I am backing up all of the final files and any other misc. things I haven't gotten around to backing up yet... then it will be time to take down all the mic's and after that the drumkit and get everything back in order again for the next people who are in here!

Trust my luck...
I'm ill :/

Rhythmic Deconstruction
It ended up being a late start for me today in the studio... had loads of stuff I just had to sort out before I could get around to recording... anyway, I ended up throwing my plan out the window in terms of recording short loops LOL! Since time is flying pretty quickly I ended up just having a good jam, playing with lots of different ideas at any given time... the session ended in me just switching off the click and playing total free-form. I have had this concept floating around in my crazy little head for a while now and there seemed no better time than today to try it out... hard to put into words really, but the basic jist of it is that there is barely any constant rhythmic pulse - it just keeps modulating in random and structured ways... like I said, hard to put into words... I haven't listened back to any of todays material yet, but if there is anything good in there I will be sure to post it on this page at a later date...
Right another day, another session!
Time for some time out :O)=
Short Loops
By the time I backed everything up yesterday it was time to leave the studio again... it's a shame I don't have a program that just does everything for me, that would make life so much easier!
Anyway, today I am going to just record one-two minute groove ideas instead of the usual four minutes in order to have lots of different short ideas to work with... I already have over 20 Gigabytes of audio material! Hard to believe really... It's going to be a lot of 'fun' working my way through it all once I am done recording all of the raw audio! At least I will have a lot to choose from when it comes to putting together the tracks for the CD... oh well, enough writing... time to get to work :)
